In 1937, on the 100th anniversary of the founding of The Bauer Type Foundry in 1837, the storied firm issued “Bauer’s Family Tree of Printing Types.” The beautifully illustrated and precisely lettered arbor may not be entirely accurate, history-wise, but it is a delightful way of learning about the lineage of type. Atlanta-based artist brian dettmer has created his ‘textonomy’ installation for toomey and tourell gallery. the sculptor creatively destroys solely vintage non-fiction books– outdated dictionaries, encyclopedias and history text that would otherwise remain unread and recycled. Via Designboom.

Farah Tamachi’s senior thesis is a six-foot-tall wall installation filled with rich flourishes and generously luscious type– all crafted in the humble medium of corrugated cardboard.
