This font face is designed to be used mostly for headlines, visual identities or short sentences, both in big and small sizes. Georgia and Verdana had two things in common so far: they were designed by Matthew Carter and meant to be optimized for on-screen use. Now they have another thing in common, they each get a pro version.

The pro versions add many features like new weights, numerals, small caps and more.

One of the reasons of the great success of Ubuntu is that they were the first Linux distribution to understand the importance of good design, branding and marketing.

Their branding effort becomes a bit more obvious with the release of an official font family: the Ubuntu Font Family. They created a sub-site dedicated to introduce and promote the font.

A beautiful font for titles with a constructivist feel. I couldn’t find a download link though, if there is any.

We’re a bit late with this news, but it is still worth mentionning that a redesigned version of the Rotis typeface was recently released.

The original version of Rotis was designed by iconic german graphic designer Otl Aicher, who chose to create four basic designs: sans serif, semi sans, semi serif and serif.

The redesigned Rotis was created by Robin Nicholas, a senior designer for Monotype Imaging in the UK, and Alice Savoie, a french freelance designer.

The new Rotis II Sans suite comprises 14 typefaces: seven weights, ranging from extra light to black, each with a companion italic. The designs are available as OpenType® Pro fonts, allowing for automatic insertion of ligatures and fractions. Pro fonts also offer an extended character set supporting most Central European and many Eastern European languages.

The result of this work is available from Fonts.com. The good news is that it is also available as a webfont.
